Help... 2D text doesn't show up! Arrrrgghhh!

I''ve got a 3D world rendering fine. I tried to add some simple 2D text for onscreen stats and nothing shows up! I''m prototyping in VB, and have even stolen the cText.cls module from the air hockey sample... so the actual text rendering code should be fine. It uses D3DXFont.DrawText(). Is there something in my initialization routines that might be causing this? Some bad render state... or "present" parameter? Mind you there are no errors at runtime, the text simply does not show up. I''ve tried diff colors and RECT''s so I don''t think these are causing any problems. Thanks! I''m pulling my hair out!
