Background Texturing

Hi, I am learning dx from Begining Direct 3D game programming. In one example, we had to throw a background image on a triangle fan. Although the app compiles with no warnings, the background texture does not appear. The screen turns light blue. After changing the image, the app still dosent show the texture except for the background color which change for each image I change. Then I tried to compile the original source from the book. Same results. Whats the problem? The texture coordinates are all logically correct. I use an Asus GForce2 MX graphic card on windows 2K OS.
