Multi-Layering Tile Question??
Hi, I am making my first tile based game...
I am just using square tiles and have some fringe tiles.
My question is: Should I make a 3 separate arrays to plot the base tiles, the fringe tiles and the objects, or should I make a tile structure that contains these three things, then just have an array of that structure? Thanks

Tile structure every time. Everything about a tile should be gathered in one place to make your code simpler. It also makes it easier to extend later.

I use layers... but because i just like ''em. If you have 3 arrays, you can let the computer do allthe work, and it will be really simple for you ! You will be able to modify your structures any time you want, without having to sort everithing to figure out where things should go. Oh well i guess the frame rate will suffer, but thats life .
