Im working on a terrain engine (like everybody else) and have recently started experimenting with texturing. Screenshot Anyway, im quite satisfied with my results so far but im wondering if they are obtained at too high a cost. My approach is a 2-pass rendering with each pass rendered with a texture blended from an alpha map and a terrain texture(grass/stone) using the multitexturing extension. This seems to work out on my pII400 with a GeforceII (around 50fps) but im wondering if this would be the case on another system. Im thinking that maybe ive been lucky and that the Geforce is particulary good at multipass/multitexturing or something like that. It just seems to good to be true. Any thoughts, suggestions, alternatives ? Edited by - newdeal on February 1, 2002 9:13:38 PM

well, voodoo2s were the first with multitexturing, so its quite safe to say that most cards handle it somewhat well. it may be a fillrate problem on some cards. you should post a simple exe demo that maybe the kind folks at gamedev.net could test on their systems. or you could find someone you know who has a lower end system.
