Hi, I was just wondering how I would go about doing something like what is done in Morpheus, how do they get the banner ads to pop up in the little window at the bottom, ActiveX maybe? what? i have no clue, so if anyone has an idea i''d love to hear it.

you mean you want to have other compaines to pay to put ads in your software? then you shoudl look into the many spyware software packages out there. i am sure one will suit you devious needs and help you get some revenue.

if you simply want to advertise things and not worry about getting paid for it, just draw the images yourself.

i HIGHLY suggest you do not add spyware to your software, and if you do make sure you mention it. though even if you mention it you most likly will get your software blacklisted and no one will use it. though some adware are accepted (well i guess), like in morpheous (though i dont use that software nor any adware, and the one software i downloaded not realizing it was adware was quickly casterated). try contacting them to see how it works.
beware - you can/will also have legal troubles if you use popups, under popups and so on - and if they use false advertising, your the one in trouble.

Also, some of those companies don''t want their popups in a program.

I recently had a little experience in banner ads in a game and would never do it again.

I wanted to see how well ad based gaming could perform and found out the hard way. My game (Halloween Havok) has managed 90,000 downloads since October and it featured banner ads for Cell Phones, Online Casino''s, and some auction site I can''t remember the name of. Of course it''s harder than anything to get anyone to pay for clicks anymore. Everyone wants pay-per-action which really sucks if the product is crap.

So anyways, out of my 90,000 downloads I made about $4 in Phone Sales. That doesn''t even cover my hosting for a week.

Anyways, distributing your game is easy, making money off it is the hard part. I would stick to Shareware if I were you.

My next game will most likely be Shareware. I''ll give it a go to see if I can turn a profit.

I hate ads, I will not use your program if you do

Most progs use an Internet Explorer control or some other web browser. The nasty ones use ''professional'' ads made by companies that want to steal your data
I wasnt thinking of it being spyware or anything, I was just wanting to pop up pay per view ads that you would normally have on a site in a web browser of sorts in my program, i was thinking that doing it this way you could distribute software for free and still make money on it. I was also thinking that i could do 2 versions of the program, 1 with ads and one without, you could turn off ads in the ads version but it would then limit the functionality and you could buy a code from me and it would then work without ads or something, i don''t know just thinking of ways to make money.
the only way you will get money for ads in yoru software is to use some spyware. no ocmpnay is going to trust YOU to give them data on ad views. thus bringing you and your software into a very bad image. its not worth it. you want to make money, make yoru software limited shareware. then get money based on how good/useful your software is. otherwise you will just make it harder to get ppl to use future software you make.
