loading and drawing 16bit bmp files

Hi, I need help loading and drawing 16 bit bmp files! I have 8bit loader and draw code and I changed the BYTE* buffers to USHORT* and deleted the palette loading stuff of the code and did the lPitch << 2 thing but I still don''t get my Image to show on the Primary surface, I don''t even get a color mess! The image I''m trying to load is converted form 24bit to 16bit with MS-Paint and I''m using DirectDraw. If you can''t help me like this, do you know of a site where I could get the needed info?
