This is my new isometric engine Orontes. Please test it and say me if it works and what I can do better. You can download it here: http://home.t-online.de/home/520020747929-0001/Orontes.zip

it doesn''t work. It switches into a different resolution, but then quits without a message, but locks the mouse pointer, and the only thing I could do was a restart.

Not bad, but still needs some work, seems like you have the basic stuff and thats it, also check your HRESULTs and take action, is better to see a messagebox saying "cant run with your current resolution" than having it crash in another computer and get comments like Peaceman''s.

I even couldn''t download the file. The download always crashes after 66 KB.
Maybe a broken zip-File???

Sorry that you must reset your PC.
I have updated the HRESULTS but I can''t find
the problem.

The programm runs(or try to run) in 640x480x16 Fullscreen modus
and used the standard cDisplay class from the DirectX8.0 SDK.

Please send me info about your hardware and your DirectX
version because nobody else has that problem.

Hey man,

Worked great on my machine, noticed no slow down and ran without a hitch.
Pentium 3, 700
256 Megs of Ram
S3 Savage4 32 Meg Video Card

I was wondering if you would release the source anytime soon, theres some things I wouldn''t mind learning from your engine.

Works great! (Outside of the general problems I have with this piece of garbage laptop I develop on).

I''ve got a PII 300 w/192 MB RAM w/2.5 Megs of Video Memory.

Christian, this is excellent. It shows smooth map scrolling, use of the mouse for scrolling, and mouse/tile hit. This is something that comes up time after time in this forum. You should release the code.

It runs very smoothly. I can even alt-tab out and back in works great. I cant tell the frame rate though.

Well, it worked after a whole reinstall of Dx8. Sorry I was so harsch last time, but I still had a little bit of unsaved programming work running in the background...
Would you release the source???

Very cool!
Worked fine on my p3-450, 284Mb RAM, TNT2 Ultra.
A little slowdown the first 3-4 seconds after loading though.
Liked the smooth scrolling and the tile editor ( although it just had three tiles =) ).

Hey Possibility,
you can display the frame rate by pressing
''F'' and with the key ''S'' you can make a screenshot.
''G'' shows a grid.
With ''L'' you can activate a frame rate limiter(65fps).

The internet version of my engine has only 3 tiles but
I''m working on an complex map Taharez and then I would
release the source!

Hey Christian,
this frame rate limiter is crap, sorry to be so honest, but it makes the game unnecessarily slow. I normally get 95-99 fps on a 700Mhz Athlon + 256 MB ram + GeForce256 but when I swich the frame rate limiter on the scrolling isn''t that smooth any more.
I like it otherwise, but another thing. Why can''t you build two pieces of road next to each other, so that they form one long road.
The program always picks the road tile, not the one next to it, so that I only can build something like:
rgr r = road
grg g = grass
rgr
instead of
grg
grg
grg
Is this a "feature" or a bug?

The grass was made by my art designer.
I ask him and he says that he had used 3ds max 4.2
and the following texture:

Is this a free Texture ?, maybe I could use it.

Yes it is a free texture and I had downloaded
it here:
http://www.gen3d.de/indexh.html

Have you looked my source?
If so, please say me, is it your engine or not.
I have worked hard to develop this engine,
because it is my first isometric engine and
I haven''t so much experience like you
(I''m only 15Years old) but I don''t steal
someones engine and say that it is my.

First the Isometrix Engine is free: http://www.isometrix.org/
So you can use the source code

Second I am the dev of Win Rail Transport: http://www.allvb.de.vu/winrt/ and NOT Isometrix !
So don''t Mail me if you have questions regarding Isometrix.

And my WinRT Engine is complete new design from scratch,
uses 2.5D (3D Optimized) and can do unlimited height.
You can download a last Demo, too

Thank you for the Texture Link,
maybe I will use it, because my grass looks currently very ugly
