Collision and .x files

I am in the process of making a game project that uses the .x file format quite heavily. In perticular, it uses .x for the terrain pieces, as well as the ground. Does anyone have a good way of doing collision detection like that where its all one big object, and im not sure about the vertices. And I have a feeling that bounding boxes won''t work for the terrain, but rebuke me if im wrong. Plz reply and thanks.
