Visual Basic - GDI to DirectGraphics Conversion

I have created a game in Visual Basic using the GDI and I would like to convert it to DirectGraphics (DirectX8). How difficult is this going to be. I would like to use some of the original source in the new game. But like with blitting using the GDI, is it basiclly the same idea using DG8? Hopefully someone can give me some insite. Thank you much. (I also don''t know DirectGraphics for VB, can someone recommend a good book?) Simply Stated, Over Rated
