Directx or Opengl

D3D and OpenGL both have advantages, but sence your a beginer, OpenGL with GLUT would be best for learning how to use a graphics api. http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1680.asp would be a nice starting place.

If you are a beginning in programming, I think you should go with Opengl.

Even though both interfaces are simple, opengl is C only and so is easier and fee l more at home than the COM Direct3d interface.

But if you are an experienced programmer with lot''s of C++ , then it does not really matter unless you want to support other platform than windows.
