OpenGL OpenGL newbie questions...

1. Graphically wise and excluding 2-d, can OpenGL do everything that DirectX can, in particular cartoon rendereng stuff? 2. How much easier is OpenGL to learn & work with than DirectX? 3. Is OpenGL in danger of going away? Thanks for your help. CCS

Yes. See NeHe''s lesson number 38 for an example of cartoon rendering in OpenGL.

Some people think that OpenGL is easier to learn, but it''s really a matter of personal preference.

Not at all. It is the API of choice for most non-games graphics work, and it''s the most popular 3D graphics API for most non-Windows platforms. It''s being updated more frequently now; OpenGL 1.4 should be out this year, with 2.0 following soon after.
