In Visual C++ can is there any way I can just create a new C++ Source file write a simple program, compile and then run it? Or do I have to create a project area every time I want to write a new program?

You can just create a file and compile it, but when you ask to compile it Visual C++ will generate a default workspace for it. I don''t think there''s a way around that: it needs to store information about how you want it compiled somewhere.
