Text file reading help

Anyone have any good articles/source/libraries for a good finite state machine that is customizeable to read text files? I know it''s very important to not hard code a lot of things and to let games be editable without recompiling. Thanks for any help you can give.

Do you know about the fstream classes? Look in the MSDN Library. Type "fstream", "ifstream", or "ofstream" into the index.

Proceeding on a brutal rampage is the obvious choice.
