How would one go about flipping to the GDI surface with Direct3D 8? There doesn''t seems to be any way to get a DirectDraw object from the Direct3D object and the Direct3D version doesn''t have a FlipToGDISurface method? Thanks

nobody knows?
Probably not what you were hoping for, but you can always lock the surface and copy the data out yourself.
no, not really

I''m sure Microsoft couldn''t have just dropped support for rendering windows GUI objects in a DX application?
G''day!

You can''t get a DirectDraw object from Direct3D because there is no DirectDraw8. There is no FlipToGDISurface or any other reliable and safe way to get the same functionality.

So, yes Microsoft can and did drop support for rendering GDI stuff when in full screen. If you''re in windowed mode all will be fine. You could stay in Windowed mode and have a window that takes up the full display, that''s often not practical though.
