.x file chap 6 jim adams book

I been looking at jim adams''s book on .x file, chapter 6. (one of the best, so far) I assume that it will load any .x file. my problem is that the models I created in 3DS Max4 which I converted using the .x file exporter for 3DS max4 won''t load. (I think???). I being messing around with the view matrix just in case the model is too small or too big. I also tried converting it using the conv3ds, but nothing. Did any one try loading different .x file? did it work? note: skinmesh example on the sdk can load it. thanks Glitch.
