Is there any kind of measurement between a unit (0.0 -> 1.0) in OpenGL? If my MS3DModel is 7.0 units tall what would his height be in pixels or something?

A unit is a unit, and does not correspond to a given length of any kind.
It doesn''t mater how bit a unit is, so it not givena defined size. If your model was 7cm tall and 30cm away, it would look the same size as if it were 7 miles tall and 30 miles away.

(Unless the far clipping plane is between 30 cm and 30 miles away. )

Also, the pov angle to the scene matters as well.
A question that always confuses me too - what is a typical setup (FOV, scaling etc.) to give something like a ''normal'' view point & perspective (equivelent to a 50mm SLR lens) ?

im not sure about 30deg FOV ild say, 90deg is good if u hold your face 10cm away from the screen
