best way to determine PVS

I am writing my first 3D FPS engine (wich is my first 3D engine). I am considering BSP as a way of determining the Potential Visibility Set (PVS). After doing some research I realized that BSP is very hard to do. What is the simplest way of determining PVS that is still fast? Thanx Proceeding on a brutal rampage is the obvious choice.

The obvious choice is to buy a programming book and go on a brutal rampage. An intense author to look for is Ivor Horton, he will make you poop your pants. You can also use a brutal search engine called (www.google.com)
