ID3DXEffect and Vertex Shaders

Wassup? I''m thinking of adding vertex shaders to my project and I''m interested in knowing about others experiences with the ID3DXEffect interface for this purpose. I see that it has some nice features and a bit of code savings over the straight vertex shader methods. Is this interface just as fast? Is there much overhead where this also supports pixel shaders?
