Quake3 shaders

Lately Ihave been working on a quake 3 bsp renderer for The Engine and I am starting to think about shaders. The levels would be waymore exciting and look better with shader support. Has anyone written anything like this? Anyone have links to documents on shaders and how they are used? Thanks -Evan --------------------------
