Heightmap + Isometric Camera?

I''ve been thinking about the worlds in my upcoming 3D / 3DIso Engine. The engine will allow the user to switch between 3/4 Iso to the First Person Perspective with no problems. At the beginning i thought of some quake level for the map (Q1 / Q2). But now I''ve been planning about my own map format containing Heightmaps. Is there technically, a good point to create a engine with these capabilities?

Depends on the kind of enviroment you''re trying to model. Heightmaps are used for terrain - if your game is going to be set outdoors, go with a heightmap. Quake style levels are for mostly indoor, corridor-riddled levels. Of course, if you need significant areas of both type, you''ll need some kind of hybrid, in which case you''ll probably have to code your own format.

Yes, the Heightmap WILL be for "outdoor" environment.
Tombs, Crypts and et cetera WILL be in "standard" map format, probably my own format.
