I''m looking to bone up on my networking and I was looking for some good resources. Is there any definitive guide to networking in games, like the red book to OpenGL? Any online or physical medium will help. Also, the same goes for algorithms on determining relevant sets of items, bandwidth optimization, and the such. As you can probably guess, I''m going to focus on winsock instead of DirectPlay. I want to read up and learn all the little parts that are missing from my networking knowledge so that I can make informed decisions on those aspects of my pre-code design documents. Thanks

I point you to an excellent book :UNIX network programming (volume 1)

Its a good reference in BSD Sockets and XTI. Although it contains "UNIX" in the name, it applies to windows too. It covers both ipv4 and ipv6.
