Ok I'm using the DirectDraw tutorial on gamedev.net, so i wont bother repeating that code. And I created a 256 color bitmap with a special palette and saved it as "Background.bmp". I put it in the same directory as the exe, and yet, when it calls the following code, it simply closes out the app. If i leave out that code it runs fine: lpDDPal = DDLoadPalette(lpDD, "Background.bmp"); the relative globals are: LPDIRECTDRAW lpDD; IDirectDrawPalette* lpDDPal; Any ideas? I tried but it didn''t show anything. But anyway, how would I do transparecy (mainly the pal(255) color that is see through) in true color mode? BMP sucks and doesn''t support the alpha layer...

Unless you write your own function, alpha channels are only supported in D3D

DirectDraw DOES have color key support, so you canb define the color to be invisible. use SetColorKey for the surface and a flag for the Blt function
