object and scene collision detection

Am I right in saying that in a 3rd/1st person type game, collision detection and response with all the game worlds objects, (NPC, items, etc), is handled differently to collision detection with the worlds static scene geometry, (BSP''s, portals). Thanks for any replies

Yes and no.

The way planes/polygons are found in the BSP tree is different than finding that data in the dynamic models... so that is different

But the actual collision detection formulaes are roughly the same. (some differences though)

So how then do you manage all the possible intersections/responses between all the potential dynamic objects in a world that are not part of the static world geometry.
