MS3D- vs X-files
Develop your own file format, that way you can dis the things you don''t need and save diskspace.. Not that difficult if you already know how to use ms3d/x
The worst thing with X-files is probably Fox Mulder..
I like the ms3d format alot better, and MilkShape3D is cheap and supports alot of other file formats so you can "borrow" models from already existing games.

.X is a good file format, but its a bit complex and underdocumented, so unless you plan to use D3DXMESH''s I would avoid it. MS3D is pretty decent, but if you use it you''re limited to using Milkshape. I would export to your own format, or use something standard like .x or .3ds.
Senshi your comment about MS3D files makes no sense. You say .ms3d limits you to using Milkshape, and then say to use .3ds? I can just as easily say 3ds limits you to 3DS Max, a much more costly (but admittedly more powerful) package. Also, as someone before you pointed out, Milkshape has importers and exporters for tons of file formats used by existing games and programs, including 3ds, x, md2, and md3, so you''re hardly limited by using it.
I know this isn''t what the original poster asked but I want to say that 3DS Max is a really nice program to use but its file format is overkill for use in games.
