I hate this. I''ve been stumped for a week trying to figure something out, and I realized I was always ditching perfectly good ideas because I thought they''d be too slow. Ugh.

Its been my experience that it is usually easiest to implement things in the simplest and most straight forward way first, and then validate that it is working. It can then be optimized for speed or memory usage as necessary. If I try to do it the complicated but faster / smaller way first, I usually run into a lot more problems and find the whole thing to be more difficult to debug.
