DirectX Lighting and Shadowing Effect

Dear all experts: i am going to create the light and shadow effect for my model in the game environment.previously, i were using the X file to generate the mesh,although MilkShape 3D does give me all the coordinates and the texture coordinates, however, the file includes all the Normal Vector for each of the mesh object. as i know, lighting and shadowing effect have to do with the Normal Vetor, so do i need to explicitly specify the Normal Vector or just included every thing on the X file. Since the X file contain the Normal vector with the value 0''s so can any experts guide me how to define the vertor using the MilkShape3d. I think thise are my first few questions, but after that i might befacing the problem in Lighting effect, hence i need yours help as well hhihi.... anyway....Thank You, from damian (DirectX Programming''s learner)
