I have some trouble to write in the z-buffer, whereas my graphic card is a 3D prophet II mx. Especially, I have the following setting: d3dpp.AutoDepthStencilFormat = D3DFMT_D16; but if I put D3DFMT_D16_LOCKABLE, it doesn''t work and the application is stopped. The directx help is not really precise on the subject. Yannick Le Goc.

Your card doesn't support the D16_LOCKABLE z-buffer. Check the caps viewer.

(make sure you look at the HAL caps values, NOT the REF values)

HAL = using vid card
REF = using software emulation

I tried to write in the depth buffer by software but it doesn''t seem to work! the depth buffer has changed like a call to device->Clear(0, NULL, D3DCLEAR_ZBUFFER, 0, 0.5f, 0) but it has no effect on the objects of the scene. Is there any other setting to change?
