I posted a query for a good beginner book on directX and what i got was a great no. of books

Tricks of the WIndows Game Programming Gurus :- andrew Lamothe
Programming ROle playing Games With DirectX :- Jim Adams
Special Effects Game Programming with DirectX :- Mason McCusskey
Programming with DirectX 8.0 :- Andrew lamothe

Could anyone plz suggest a book for someone who is a real newbie but am dedicated to learn the topic.. Like abt the TOTWGPG by Andrew Lamothe someone said that he uses DX 6.0 so it wont be a good choice ??? Anyone kind enough to mention any book n its pros n cons for a complete beginner !!!

Well definately stear clear of Zen. A lot of people seem to have issues with it.

Here are my recommendations:
TYWGPFD (Lamothe) is a good book. Buy it, ignore taht it is DX 6.0. It is close enough to 7.0, and you learn the CONCEPTS whcih is the imporant thing. If you have some extra cash and want to spring for a better book, get Tricks of the windows game programming gurus or whatever it is called, the other lamothe book. I have issues with lamothe''s books though, he likes to wrap things up in wrappers, and he likes to use outdated video modes, but he''s great for beginners.
The other books are more advanced, but not much.
I own both of the two i have recommended. If you are an utter newbie, they are good. I was unfortunately quite disappointed, but I have a wealth of experience.
