Help with common files and viewports

Hello everyone. I am trying to render a background texture, but I cant seem to use the GetViewport(...) function. Its because I have Hal HWVP Pure device selected. However, since the common files deals with device creation, I cant change the flags. Is there an alternate way of getting the screen boundarys or am I missing something? Thanks.

m_d3dsdBackBuffer.Width and m_d3dsdBackBuffer.Height will have the correct render device deminsions after the common code creates the device.

Hmmmm....that doesnt seem to work I am just trying to draw something as the background. But wait...maybe drawing it as a background isnt such a good idea. I am making a game where you can see a map of earth and be able to zoom in and out. Then, if it is a background, I wont be able to zoom in, right? Also, with the common files, why does changing m_bWindowed to false not make it fullscreen? Thanks.
