mesh realtime modification (using C3DMesh)

Hello, I''m using the C3DMesh class from the DX SDK to manage my meshes and wanted to modify my mesh at realtime but it seems that i have to modify my local and my system meshes simultaneously in order to do so : if i only modify my local mesh those modifications will be lost on a device restore (resize event for example) am i wrong ? is it really necessary to have 2 versions (local/system) of the mesh as done in the C3DMesh class, why did they not use managed ressources ? tanks for advance !
