Any ideas on what would be the best algorithm for reducing the size of an image (bicubic, bilinear, ?). I''m also looking for some tutorials for such algorithms. Speed is not an issue, the quality of the output is.

hmm.. maybe mip maps? I''m not sure, I''m just throwing it out there.
Well I think mip maps are good if you have one end of the texture close to you and the other is far away. So I guess mip maps are no good for you. I guess Im not help you at all!

I''d do like a bilinear filter or something. It would be cool and easy!

Try getting hold of the Devember 2001 issue of Game Developer magazine. It had a good article on high-quality mipmap generation. The source-code that goes with it is available here.
