I''m building a terrain engine, and wondered if anyone could suggest a free 3d modeller for me to generate buildings to put on the terrain. Ideally it will have a nice file format to work with. Thanks in advance

"FREE" and "3d" Are not terms that are generally used near each other, BUT if you have a cable modem or have a friend with a cable modem you can use it to download "illegal" versions of programs eg. 3ds Max. <<< this is a good program to use as dx likes 3ds max ( you can convert .3ds files to .x files, dx''s mesh files.)

Or, you could put in tons of effort, to goto download.com, type in 3d modeler, and download something that suits your purposes fine, and is legal.

Try Anim8or or Blender, they are good ones and should fit your needs (and even much more). You don''t need any cable modem or bad attitudes.

Or you could get a copy of Maya Personal Learning Edition. It''s a free download (136Meg), or $5 for a CD version.

For download go here.
For CD purchase go here.

There''s a lot of free software out there. I have a page on my site with a few links. For your purposes don''t bother with Maya Personal Edition because the data can''t be exported.
