Minimal D3D7 examples

Are there any examples of a minimal D3D7 application (eg. drawing a flat-shaded triangle) that don''t use some framework or anything like that? D3DX is fine. The tutorials in the SDK are littered with irrelevant Windows programming stuff when all I need and want is a simple message pump, which I already have. I looked in the resources section here of course, and nothing seemed to fit the bill, although I may have overlooked something.
