problem creating fstream object

Recommended Posts

Okay, I''ve been programming with c++ for over 2 years, and I haven''t seen anything like this before. I have an fstream object declared: fstream File; At first, this worked fine. Now, however, the program crashes at this point when I run it. Sometimes with an unhandled exception, and sometimes with the Windows popup that says "This program has performed an illegal operation...". I am utterly clueless as to what the problem could be. Anyone have an idea?

Fstream should do anything that ifstream and ofstream does.

Have you tried single stepping into the stream code to see exactly where it crashes? And are you using the old or the new iostreams libraries? If the new ones, make sure you apply the fixes at the site in my signature before continuing.
