LaMothe's tricks for windows...
If you think that that book was boring then you shouldnt even open a more general book on 3D graphics / programming / math. It would kill you.. But if you thinking of buying "Programming RPG gamnes with DX" then please do it its a great book.... it realy gets you started with DX game programming. It will probably get you a job too if you know everything that the book coveres :-).
AP, speak for yourself. i have seen some of Lamothes macros on the forum and they are horrendusly wrong. they not only dont works correctly, they are not even of sound princible and would not work correctly based on just theory.
you can thanks MS for getting ppl to code games for windows. without directx (and win95) it would be very likly ppl would still be coding for dos or moved to another OS.

Yeah his macros suck a lot. But the rest of the TOTWGPG book is good
I read his Windows game programming for dummies which was okay, a shortend version of tricks... My main complaint was again the marcos, and that he skiped a few important details and didn''t explain enough about game programing itself. It also was cheap, entertaining, and did include some good games and did a fairly good job of explaining.
I must say.. LaMoth''s books are excelent, i have thumbed through a few in Chapters and what not and i have Windows Game programming Gurus and i havnt read far into it but am itching to get back at it... i find if u are bord w/ NE of the books then dont be in the industry.. If u want to be a programmer you should want to learn everything ther is to know. Sure its time consuming sometimes but the broader you know the more you can program and the more you can use it.... i am finished w/ Sams VC++6 in 24hrs... Good book.. but far less superior to LaMoths Game Programming.. it was a great starter book.. if i can afford more books LaMoths will be first then going down the scale.. weither i need the whole book or just somthing to scim through... either way.. it benifits me in multipul ways and hell i''d love to do it..!

Im a Noob but i am willing to learn

Which macros are you people talking about? What exactly is wrong with them?
One thing i don''t like is that his bitmap loading functions suck. I spend half an hour adapting them to one of my programs, only to find out that i get garbage when i try to load a bitmap. Using the WIN32 API functions is a much better choice.

BASIC programmers don''t die, they just GOSUB and don''t return.

If i had money to get "tricks" I would read it from cover to cover at least 4 times! Either you should read the book or find a new hobby/profession
Ok... thx guys...
I have been looking on this site and I must tell this:
The articles under "Articles & Resources" on this site, I found faaaaar more interesting than LaMothes book. (And not to mention that i finally could understand it...)
And I don''t know why everyone tells me to stop this business just because LaMothes book didn''t suite me?
All I was asking for, was if the "Programming Role-Playing Games with DirectX" was better than LaMothes ? (More directly on the Direct X, and on the code) ...
Anyway... for now I got all i need
Thx to www.gamedev.net !
