Most people go with the obvious and use terrain to represent earth, but I tend to only give average points for that since it''s not very creative (unless the terrain is really outstanding). If you can come up with something more original, it will be to your benefit.
okay, kinda dumb question, but what counts as "earth"? do things like grass, trees, flowers, etc cound as earth or is it more like terrain stuff?
Since entries that don''t include all four elements will be disqualified, if you''re representing one or more of them in a very non-conventional way, send Kevin or I an e-mail to make sure we''ll accept it.
quote:Original post by ThrumpCompatibility has occasionally been an issue. We haven''t selected all of the judges yet, but I''m sure that myself and Kevin will be two of them. I''ll be running entries on two systems. One is a P3 650 with a Radeon 8500 128MB. The other is an Athlon 700 with a GeForce 4 Ti4600. Both run Windows 2000 Pro. I think Kevin has an Athlon 1000 with a GF2.
Sorry if this was asked/answered already (I didn''t see it), but what systems will the entries be judged on? Specifically, what graphics card/operating system. Has compatibility been an issue in previous contests?
If people want to target higher-end machines, I think that''s okay, even to the extent of using pixel shaders or advanced OpenGL extensions. The only issue would be making sure that either all of the judges have access to high end systems to judge on, or to not count their score for entries that won''t run on their system (due to it not meeting the minimum requirements; if it doesn''t run because of bugs, you''re out of luck). Kev, whaddya think?
I''d advise everyone to try to finish before the deadline so that you have time to get other people to test out your demo/game. It should run on a wide range of systems (or at least, if the system doesn''t meet the hardware requirements, inform the user and exit gracefully). If your entry crashes when we try to run it, we''re not going to send it back to you to fix.
