Alpha channels using OpenPTC+Titan...?

Hi guys... Relativly new to the scene (well.. the windows game scene anyway) And I''m attempting to develop a 2D point ''n click adventure. Now I''m using OpenPTC for my pixel blitting and Titan for OpenPTC to load the images I would like to use for my backgrounds and stuff. Now ofcourse I want multiple layers of graphic in a scene so the characters can walk in front of, and behind stuff. Now my question is, how do I implement alpha channels so a foreground item doesn''t block out a rectangle of background graphics? In the end I''d like to have multiple layered parralax-scrolling rooms... I''m pretty sure I can figure out the parralax math once I''ve figured out how to do the alpha channel stuff though. Any help is appreciated. As I said before, I''m relativly new to the scene... so if I''m going about this all wrong... feel free to slap me upside the head
