Direct3D Z-buffering and textures

Some people using DX7 for VB is having trouble with rendering textured polygons when using a z-buffer. I''m starting to wonder, if you have to do something special to make this work. I use DX7 for VB and I''m not having problems with the z-buffer or the texturing. What HW are you using?

It''s not really me having trouble with that, I made a simple Direct3D sample and some people modified it with a z-buffer. I know some gfx cards is having trouble with z-buffer formats. So then it''s really no bug?
