Get a book. For 50 bucks you can get an amazing resource, many good books, such as Jim Adams "Programming RPGs in DirectX" come with a full game source, code leading up to it, and a great book to explain it all.

I just finished a course in Games Programming at the University of Calgary. A couple of the games we created are available with full source on sourceforge.

These are by no means professional games, but they should be pretty good examples to get you started.

I guess I should register - I like these forums - just have never posted.

Our course ran for just under four months. The entire first month was used to create the design documents, and then about 2.5 months of coding. Our teams were five people each.

Needless to say, it was a very busy semester at school! Many, many late nights of coding. None of us had written any DirectX code before, although we had all done an OpenGL graphics course.
