directX debugging level

hi .......heres the thing.... when i compile a program it compiles fine and runs fine, then if i switch the debug level of dx to max it still compiles fine but when i run the program it says this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown...blah blah.... why does it do that and how can i find the errors thats causing the exe to fail. i use vc++6.0 thanks people

You are causing some sort of error that the retail versions might let slip through if it''s not too big a deal, but the debug with high output won''t. These are generally bad, even though your game might run ok, it could be some kind of leak or otherwise that you really dont want happeneing in the background. As for finding it, just step through the program until it causes the error.
