Using icons as controls on a desktop background?

I want to try to make something like an icon on my desktop that acts as a controls. For example a + and - icon which, when clicked, zooms in or out of the wallpaper. Or maybe have a background which animates when a play button is pushed.. Or have my wallpaper act like a website with links and interactive menus linking to different folders and stuff, to make navigating my PC like navigating a website.. Mostly cause I''m bored

Your talking about an Active Desktop (Windows 98 or greater). You'll want to create activeX controls (like you would use in a web page). Look up the docs at MSDN
