But it will not render the bitmap just the mesh. here is part of my x.file in text mode xof 0302txt 0064 Header { 1; 0; 1; } Material x3ds_mat_Earth { 1.000000, 1.000000, 1.000000, 1.000000;; 17.000000; 0.898039, 0.898039, 0.898039;; 0.00, 0.00, 0.00;; } Frame x3ds_Sphere01 { FrameTransformMatrix { -0.951764, 0.106772, -0.287654, 0.000000, 0.114972, 0.993300, -0.011715, 0.000000, 0.284476, -0.044222, -0.957663, 0.000000, 0.001000, 0.001000, 0.001000, 1.000000;; } Mesh Sphere01 { 872; 0.000000; 0.985222; -0.000000;, -0.000000; 0.973092; 0.156492;, -0.024481; 0.973092; 0.154565;, -0.048359; 0.973092; 0.148833;, and on and on ect. I''m not entirely sure about this but it seems as the material is first declared as a template and then there should be a reference to that material in the x3ds_Sphere01-frame if that one uses the x3ds_mat_Earth material.
By the example you have printed here there are no such reference, maybe it comes further down? If not it should be included. It should be somewhere in the mesh structure.

I am very new to 3d max. How do I get a reference to x3ds_mat_Earth material.
