sprite = a movable object. nothing more than your "character" or bullet or whatever on screen that moves. The name descends from when computers had special hardware (C64, Amiga, and more) to display movable objects.

MOD = MODification of a game, or, a MODule. A game-MOD is just a ''hack'' of a game - counter-strike for half-life is a mod. A MODule on the other hand is music pieced together by a bunch of samples played at the right note at the right beat - these files have the extension ".mod"

GHOUL = never heard of this related to game dev, sorry.

To be more specific on the sprite: It's not any object. It's a 2D image object that always faces the camera. 2D objects that don't always face the camera are called billboards.

Sprite example: Play DOOM all the monsters are sprites.
