Offscreen surface in DD

This is a newbie question, but I''d really appreciate any help from any of you guys. I''m having a problem with an offscreen Direct Draw surface. I''ve been using StretchBlt to copy bitmaps onto my large offscreen surface, but if I load more than six, DD refuses to blt or release the surface correctly. If I load less, it works fine. I know the problem isn''t the dimensions of the surface, I''ve tried setting them really big, etc. Please help! Also something I noticed when debugging this program was that when I set the offscreen surface to be really huge, blted bitmaps look like garbage. Why''s that?
