strips vs fans

are the two same speed (d3d)? on all cards (does it make a difference?)? thanks in advance

I don''t think there is much of a performance penalty for any of them. The only use for strips and fans is to save memmory. I heard that strips are the fastest FVF in D3D.
They are the same speed as long as there are equal amount of triangles in both primitives. Generally though it is easier to build larger strips than fans, so strips are used more often. Planar polygons though, are mostly made with fans.
speed depend on hardware support of both format.
For example PowerVR uses only one sort, and must transform the other in the first one format.
