the LParam parameter

I am using Windows Hooks, to catch Keyboard event''s occuring in all processes on the system. The parameter returned which contains the keystate is lParam. I am unable to detect if a key has been pressed once and only once(I want to moniter users key presses) could somone pls help. I don''t know how to extract the message info from lparam, as i am unsure on the format the key information is stored there as. Hope you understand the problem Thanks alot Steve
