a scripting engine

how would one go about making a scripting engine where all you had to do after you program the actual game engine. is type in what was gonna be said in your game...RPG....and the game engine would figure out when to display that text based on some type of other information thats in the script. thanks all

Well, unfortunately scripting is usually a little more complex than you make it sound. There is at more than one article one the subject available here on GameDev, a series over at FlipCode, and there have been lots of threads about scripting engines, scripting languages, embedding Python, LUA, java-script, and so on in these forums. So I respectfully request that you search the forums and check the other resources to see what was said and ask some more detailed questions.
