Herb Sutter, secretary of the C++ committee and the man behind the Guru Of The Week[1] column, is now working for Microsoft as a liaison to the C++ community. From [2]:
Herb Sutter, secretary of the ISO/ANSI C++ standards committee and acclaimed C++ author and expert, has joined Microsoft Corp. in the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division. Sutter joins the company''s growing ranks of recognized C++ experts, including Stanley Lippman, a C++ pioneer who joined Microsoft in October 2001.
This should imply that MS is aiming for full compliance with the standard in a future version of VC++. There is also an interview with Sutter at [3]. I found this quote from [3] quite interesting:
Microsoft definitely does intend to ship a fully standard-compliant version of Visual C++. It won''t all be in this next incremental release that we have in early beta right now, but the majority of the conformance improvements will be in there, including partial specialization. It''s certainly conformant enough that the most modern C++ community libraries, particularly Loki, Lamba and Boost, compile in-house without workarounds today.

Now that is something to look forward to, even for people like me who hate M$.
