I had a problem when using DirectInput (it wouldn''t compile and gave the message: syntax error : missing '';'' before ''*'' error : ''IDirectInput8'' : missing storage-class or type specifiers error : ''g_pDirectinput'' : missing storage-class or type specifiers I searched the forums, and solved the problem by moving up the library include order to the top of the directories list. My question: Why does changing the order fix the problem?

It was probably including an older version of the DirectX library that didn''t have IDirectInput8 defined (like the DirectX 7 (or earlier) headers that come with Windows), so when you moved the new library directory to the top it searched there first and found the correct version.
