Maya exporter question

Hi, I was hoping someone can help me with a maya exporter question. I was wondering how I can get indices from the MfnMesh class. When messing around with the SDK it seems that getEdgeVertices is what I want because it gives me the correct number of triangles when I call getNumEdges(). But the problem is that when I call a getEdgeVertices() it gives me a 2 array int but I need 3 to connect a triangle. I''m sure there is something I just plain don''t understand and I would appreciate if someone could help me out thanks. w
